About the university

Jointly funded by The State Administration of Radio Film and Television and The People’s Government of Zhejiang Province, Zhejiang University of Media and Communications (ZUMC) is one of China’s major hubs that cultivate specialized talents for the broadcast industry and other industries in media and communications. For more than 30 years, ZUMC has provided central and local broadcast and media industries with a myriad of specialized talents. Almost 10,000 full-time students are currently studying in over 50 programmers at the 13 Colleges and Schools of ZUMC. The University grew out of The Zhejiang Higher Vocational Training School of Radio & Television which was affiliated with The State Administration of Radio Film and Television. In May 2004, with the approval of The Ministry of Education, the School was upgraded to a university and changed its name to the present Zhejiang University of Media & Communications. In October 2011, The Ministry of Education granted the University the right to confer Master’s degrees in Journalism and Media Communications. The University has two campuses, one in Xiasha Higher Education Zone, Hangzhou, one of China’s most attractive and liveliest cities, which enjoys the reputation of “A Paradise on Earth”, and the other is in Tongxiang, a famous city in the area south of the Yangtze River. The University covers a total area of over 85 hectares with a floor space of 610,000 square metres, of which the Xiasha Campus covers an area of 52 hectares with a floor space of 450,000 square metres, and Tongxiang over 33 hectares with a floor space of 160,000 square metres.
